Tony and Jade’s wedding is only a few weeks away. Grier has a beautiful dress to wear but it needed a little poof. Since Grier was born I’ve been thinking about making petticoats and tutus and I had a go at a no sew tutu which worked really well.
To go under this dress though we needed something a bit more put together. I dusted off my sewing machine and referenced this tutorial and it worked really well. I didn’t cut off the vest – I left the poppers underneath to keep Grier all together and to keep it snugly on her body. I used an old cotton remnant for the skirt part – in retrospect it’s a bit stiff and heavy so I would use something lighter next time. I bought the tulle from Hobbycraft, it comes on a roll and originally went looking for white or ivory but came away with pale blue which I think works quite well. The tulle was not wide enough to double it up like the tutorial suggests but I did have enough length for three tiers. Here are the before and after shots so you can judge the poof level for yourself.

I was going for european princess rather than gypsy wedding so I think this is just about right, but I can’t pretend I’m not imagining one with more layers……..
